The common panda bear eats around 20 or 30 pounds of bamboo shoots per day. Because panda bears have a diet low in nutrition, it's important because of it to help keep its digestive tract full. The limited energy input imposed on it by its diet has affected the panda's behavior. The Giant Panda tends to limit its social interactions and avoids steeply sloping terrain so that you can limit its energy expenditures. To learn more about the panda bear's diet and behavior, read environmental magazines like Smithsonian, Audubon and Preservation magazine.

The maximum threats for the panda species is habitat loss along with a low birthrate. Poaching by locals and also by foreigners is a threat to the survival of panda bears.

Efforts to sustain the panda bear human population are international. In China there exists a panda sanctuary known as the Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries inside the province of Sichuan, protection by law from the Chinese government and other wildlife reserves. Within the U.S., researchers at zoos such as the San Diego Zoo are studying pandas' behaviors and needs hoping learning how to better take care of the animals. A few of the behaviors and requirements being studied are panda bears' scent marking, nutritional needs and how they communicate with each other. Additionally, worldwide environmental organizations just like the Globally Fund for Nature will work on saving pandas.
